TAMA, Iowa — The Perry boys basketball team made the over 90-minute drive to Tama Friday for a non-conference tilt with South Tama County.

The Trojans won just their second game of the year to finish the regular season 2-20 after posting a 70-51 victory. The loss dropped the visiting Bluejays to 2-19 in their campaign.

STC wasted little time in grabbing control of the game between two programs that rarely meet on the hardwood. The hosts led, 21-7, after one period and entered the intermission with a 34-17 advantage. Perry saw their deficit slowly widen to 19 points, down 46-27, after three frames and then could not catch up.

Drake Levan sank four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 19 points for the Jays, with Holden Smith and Zander Mahler (both of whom sank one trey apiece) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Five points from Kaelen Davis and two apiece from Owen Myers and Geren Kenney capped the scoring for the guests.

Perry will play host Harlan (14-5) at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in Class 3A Substate 8 play. Council Bluffs Lewis Central faces Denison-Schleswig in the 8 p.m. game. The winners will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 in Harlan.

Bishop Heelan faces Atlantic and Carroll plays Glenwood in the other half of the bracket, with games in Sioux City, where the Feb. 24 semifinal will be held.

The Subustate 8 Final will top at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at Denison.
