Perry cross country finishes season at Glenwood

GLENWOOD, IA — Perry raced at a 3A cross country state qualifier Oct. 19, with neither team having an individual advance despite fine performances.

ADM won the girls title with 49 points, with Perry crossing 10th of 11 at 285. Geneva Timmerman of ADM was the overall winner in 17 minutes, 59.6 seconds.

The boys crown went to Glenwood (30), with Perry (281) 10th of 12. Lewis Central junior Ethan Eichhorn was the first finisher, turning in a clocking of 15:36.9.

Taryn Nehring (22:10.24), Amy Diaz (24:15.97) and Mylah Meis (24:31.94) were 35-54-60 as the first three Jayette finishers, with Mercedes Ponce (25:25.36) and Julie Maylum (25:36.3) placing 67-69 and also scoring. Natalie Castillo was 71st, in 25:49.29, for Perry but did not have her score counted.

All six Jayettes who competed are sophomores.

Yonas Andemichael, as he did all season, led his fellow Bluejays across the line. He finished 18th overall in 117:12.19.

Thad Stewart was 52nd in 18:50.29 and Gannon Meis 61st in 19:09.61, with Owen Myers 72nd in 20:11.25 and Kyeo Augustine 78th in 21:57.68. Also running for the Jays were Bryce Anliker (81st in 22:19.61) and Aiden Carlson (82nd, 23:20.9).

Meis and Anliker are seniors, wtih Andemichael, Myers, and Carlson sophomores while Stewart and Augustine are freshmen.
