Perry cross country runs at Saydel Invite Thursday

SAYDEL — Perry concluded the regular portion of their cross country season Thursday by participating in the Saydel Invitational.

Six teams scored in the girls varsity race. Ballard and North Polk dominated the meet, finishing 1-2 with 27 points and with 31. Perry was third at 99, with Greene County (122), Woodward-Granger (131) and Boone (153) also in action.

Ellie Twedt of Ballard won the overall title in 19 minutes, 37.98 seconds. A total of 78 runners answered the opening gun.

Jaylene Karolus led Perry with a 20:50.13 clocking that finished 11th overall. Kailey Crawford was 16th in 22:59.53, with Cris Gomez (23:45.35), Kennedy Tunink (24:13.38) and Molly Lutmer (24:19.46) also scoring by crossing 23-24-25.

Hannah Peterson (30th, 25:52.98) and Kanyshai Abdieva (32nd, 26:09.85) also ran for the Perry varsity, with Angela Hernandez (26:55.36), Alondra Avila (30:50.00) and Fatima Rodriguez (31:50.91) all competing for the Jayette JV.

Des Moines Christian won the boys varsity race with 51 points, with Ballard edging Des Moines Lincoln, 64-65, for second place. W-G was sixth (181) and Perry seventh (182) in an 11-team field.

DM Lincoln’s Andrew Klein finished first among 78 harriers in 16:49.67.

Eduardo Sanchez (21st, 18:43.1) and Mario Cruz (25th, 18:47.34) led the Perry boys. Eli Noble (36th, 19:21.52), Ethan Miller (46th, 19:53.25) and Hayden McFarland (54th, 20:18.18) wrapped the scoring quintet for the Bluejays. Tomas Lopez (55th, 20:19.24) and Tanner Burgin (56th, 20:19.46) were immediately behind McFarland, but their scores were not used for the team total.

Perry will compete Tuesday in the Raccoon River Conference meet in Huxley.
