Perry falls to Carroll after winning three of four

CARROLL — Perry’s long search for a conference victory was continued Tuesday after host Carroll swept the Jayette netters, 3-0, in their Raccoon River Conference meeting.

The Tigers were 25-7, 25-11 and 25-11 winners to improve to 17-10, 5-0 while the Jayettes fell to 9-11, 0-4.

The setback came after Perry had claimed wins in three of four matches at the Saydel Invitie Monday. Perry stopped Des Moines East, 21-6 and 21-10, and Des Moines Hoover, 21-11 and 21-16 before besting Saydel, 21-18 and 22-20. Martensdale-St. Marys prevented a Perry sweep, the Blue Devils winning on scores of 21-17 and of 21-15.

Perry served a season-best 24-of-26 with one ace against Carroll but had only 11 kills while the Tigers had 36 kills and nearly triple the number of serves, finishing 67-of-72 with 14 aces.

Kacy Nevitt had nine kills and Ashley Cerna and Peyton Tunink one each. Taylor Atwell had nine assists and Tunink one, with Magley Orellana providing a team-best 15 digs. Cerna, Nevitt, Tunink and Jasmine Shriver each had one assist.

Atwell served 5-5-1, Orellana 7-of-7, Mary Ann Riesberg 5-of-5, Nevitt 3-of-4, Tunink 2-of-3 and Shriver 2-of-2.

Nevitt had a total of 20 kills Monday, with Shriver adding 10, Atwell five, Jayna Kenney five, Cerna and Lanie Fish two each and Tunink one. Atwell had 33 assists, Cerna three, Riesberg and Tunink two apiece and Orellana one.

Orellana had 18 digs, Riesberg 11 and Kenney eight to lead the defense, with Shriver making three blocks, Atwell two and Nevitt and Cerna one each.

Orellana served 37-38-10, Nevitt 23-28-7 and Riesberg 25-28-3. Atwell was 16-18-3 behind the line and Kenney 10-11-1, with Shriver 31-of-32, Tunink 6-6-2 and Jasmin Olmos 1-of-1.

Perry returns to action Tuesday with a visit from Winterset before hosting the Jayette Tourney Oct. 10.
