Helping to sort and shelve the large donation from the Lutheran Church of Hope Wednesday were Perry Food Pantry volunteers, from left, Margaret Harden, Marlene Johnson, Connie McGuire and Becky Shelker.

Volunteers with the Perry Food Pantry had their hands filled Wednesday afternoon when a large donation was received from the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, raised during the church’s Super Bowl food drive.

“We were expecting a couple of shopping carts full,” said Lou Hoger, Perry Food Pantry coordinator, “but they brought us all this.” He pointed to a wall stacked with food and sundries and as much again on the tables indoors.

“And we were just one of 20 pantries to received their Super Bowl donations,” he said.

The Perry Food Pantry location at 3000 Willis Ave. now has new flooring — the old shag carpeting was not well suited to shopping carts — and they are still accepting donations toward HVAC upgrades to the site at the former Rowley Masonic Home.

Many good things were received at the Perry Food Pantry Wednesday from the Super Bowl food drive held by the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
