NEWTON — Des Moines Lincoln and host Newton each slipped past Perry in girls soccer action Saturday at the Cardinal Tournament.

Perry (3-3) faced Lincoln in their first game, with the Railsplitters scoring late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Natalie Martinez scored for Perry on a penalty kick with just over four minutes to play to tie the score, but Lincoln found the back of the net with 74 seconds remaining to steal the win.

The Jayettes had nine shots on goal against the hosts in their second game but were unable to beat the keeper. Newton won by scoring the only goal of the game with just over 15 minutes left in regulation.

Odaly Perla had three saves in goal for Perry against Lincoln and five saves against Newton.

Perry hosts Bondurant-Farrar tonight and Boone Thursday. Martinez is two goals from tying the Perry school career goals record of 86 (successful penalty kicks do not count as individual goals scored).
