Perry harriers compete at Ballard

HUXLEY — All available levels of the Perry cross country team were in action Monday at the Bomber Invitational, as both varsity, both middle school and the boys junior varsity squads made the circuit. Perry does not field a girls JV unit.

Perry ran in the Class A section in the high school races, with the middle school 2-mile run a one-class event.

The Bluejay varsity was 12th in a 12-team field with 376 points. Carlisle nipped Nevada, 64-65, for top honors, with DC-G third at 77.

Anthony Chavez was the first Perry finisher, crossing 66th in the 83-runner field in 20 minutes, 38.6 seconds. Bryan Funez (60th, 20:52.2), Tanner Burgin (78th, 23:00.4), Calvin Sass (81st, 23:14.1) and Erick Funez (82nd, 23:56.9) also scored, with Chase Archer (83rd, 23:57) running varsity as well.

ADM’s Nate Mueller won in 16:38, with DC-G’s Aiden Ramsey second at 16:59.4 and Pella’s Josiah Wittenberg third at 17:02.2.

Ainsley Erzen of Carlisle was the girls winner in 19:16.8, with Pella’s Caroline McMartin (19:54.5) and DC-G’s Megan Sterbenz (16:59.1) placing 2-3.

Ballard (44), DC-G (47) and Norwalk (110) were the top trio of girls teams, with Perry 10th of 12 at 259.

Jaylene Karolus medaled by finishing ninth in 20:58.6, with Molly Lutmer the second Jayette to cross, placing 54th in 25:29.6. Also scoring were Kennedy Tunink (64th, 27:04.8), Hannah Peterson (65th, 27:05.6) and Cris Gomez (67th, 27:47.8), with Hailey Peterson (77th, 31:31.9) running varsity as well.

Jayson Chavez (24:21.3), Jonathan Chavez (24:35.18), Gannon Meis (24:41.8), Sebastian Hernandez (31:17.7) and Dalton Scott (35:46.9) ran the Bluejay JV, with Oscar Bellrand (13:04.9), Owen Myers (14:12.7), Garrett Winey (15:41.5), Aiden Burgin (15:44), Alec Burgin (16:29.2), Reygan Girkins (16:42.8) and Hunter Ayers (18:04.3) competing for the Bluejay middle school team.

Running for the Jayette grade 7-8 squad were Quin Mahler-Moreno (15:12.5), Olivia Christensen (16:03.4), Julie Maylum (16:20.3), Amy Diaz (18:03), Isabella Burgis (18:06.1), Cynthia Aguirre (18:15.7) and Alexa Garcia (18:39.9).

Perry returns to action Monday at the ADM Invitational.
