The Perry senior class float, voted by the public as "Best Float" in Perry's 2017 Homecoming parade. The 2018 edition of the event will begin Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The “Bluejays Are Out of This World” is the theme for Perry Homecoming 2018, as the Bluejay gridders will face the Comets of North Polk at Dewey Field September 14.

Students voted earlier this week for the five king and queen candidates that comprise the royal court, with the winners to be announced Thursday during a coronation ceremony at the PHS gym at 8 p.m. A bonfire and rally will follow at the Perry Athletic Complex.

Queen candidates include Alondra Avila, Jocelyn Fuentes, Jamileth Sarceno, Julia Stetzel and Jasmine Tobar. The king will come from the quintet of Carlos Calderon, Mario Cruz, Mike Echeverria, Ernesto Jimenez and Kaleb Olejniczak.

The public is encouraged to witness the Homecoming Parade, which will begin lining up at the high school at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and proceed down Willis Avenue to Second Street, where it will turn north for two blocks.

A pork sandwich dinner will be held outside Raccoon Valley Bank, with a sandwich, chips and drink available for a free will donation. It is suggested to make a $5 donation per meal, or $20 for a family. All proceeds will go to the Perry Junior Class Prom Committee.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

The Perry football team will be on hand to sign posters and pose for photographs, and the Perry Booster Club Pop-Up Shop will be open, selling PHS clothing and merchandise.

Perry students will be vying, class vs. class, for the honor of winning the Spirit Stick, with each class able to earn points from a variety of activities throughout the week.

Classroom doors will be decorated in the “space” theme, with judging held Tuesday.

Students will dress in a “meme” theme Monday, with Tuesday serving as Patriotic Day, with students sporting red-white-and-blue. In keeping with the theme for the week, Thursday will be “space day” for student attire, with each class wearing their assigned colors Friday. Class vs. class games will be held in the PHS gym Friday beginning shortly after 1 p.m.

Wednesday will serve as the ever-popular Volunteer Day, with students canvassing around the community providing a variety of service projects. A lunch will be held at Dewey Field for student volunteers at 12 p.m.

Game time Friday is 7:30 p.m. for the varsity contest, with the Homecoming Dance to follow at PHS, ending at 1 p.m. Perry defeated North Polk, 38-31, in a double-overtime thriller in Alleman last season.
