Perry freshman Sebastian Hernandez celebrates his first varsity victory Thursday. He was one of 12 Bluejays competing at a junior varsity tourney at DC-G Monday.

GRIMES — The weather outside may have been bitter cold, but the action in the DC-G gym was hot Monday as the Mustangs hosted nine visiting teams for a junior varsity wrestling tournament.

Perry sent 12 grapplers to the tourney, with ADM, Boone, Greene County, Indianola, Kuemper Catholic, Norwalk, Osklaloosa and Winterset joined the hosts on the mats.

Wrestlers competed in four-man brackets, each having three duals. Four Bluejays finished 2-1 to secure second place, with Amos Barrios-Munoz, Rylee Ray and Wilber Ramirez all winning twice with pins while Jeb Stewart posted two wins by major decision.

Alan Gomez, Leonard Jacobson and Ever Tobar each had one pinfall victory in finishing 1-2 and in third place in their respective brackets.

Also in action for Perry, but coming away without a win, were Chien Doan, Carlos Gonzalez, Charley Guardado, Sebastian Hernandez and Jason Zepeda.
