Visitors from the Dallas County Hospital brought the Perry Kiwanis Club members up to date on the latest hospital goings on Tuesday at the club’s weekly lunch meeting.

DCH Occupational Therapist Catlin McDowell outlined the hospital’s durable medical equipment (DME) loan closet, a new initiative for the community scheduled to begin in January. The closet will temporarily loan walkers, wheel chairs, commodes, reachers — anything one might need when recovering from surgery or hospitalization.

The DME loan program will be provided through a partnership of DCH and 21st Century Rehab.

DCH Physical Therapist Rachel Swisher then told the Kiwanians about dry needling, a treatment method of using a single needle to relieve pressure points in muscles. She demonstrated on McDowell, who happily volunteered.

“It was very interesting,” Kiwanian Vince Sturm said of dry needling. “I am going to actually have them try it on my back.”

DCH Foundation Director and Perry Kiwanian Matt Crooks welcomed his fellow hospital staffers to the meeting.
