The November meeting of Perry’s Optimist Club International was highlighted by the induction of three new members.

About a dozen members attended the meeting in the Cellar at la Poste, where Optimist Club President Jenny Eklund provided loose meat sandwiches and chips to the membership. Eklund opened the meeting by leading the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Past President Dr. Randy McCaulley offered a prayer, asking for blessings on the meeting after a week of local events that challenged the positive outlook of the Optimist Club International.

Joining the ranks of the Perry Optimist Club were Maggie Lamphier, Joel Martin and Justin Ray. Lamphier and Ray are recent Perry High School graduates and current DMACC students, and Martin is co-principal at the Perry Elementary School.

Certificates, lapel pins and other regalia were presented to the newest Optimists, and the received warm welcomes from the members.

Items of Optimist business discussed during the meeting included the group’s participation in various holiday activities, including the Lighted Christmas Parade, the Giving Tree project at local schools and the Shop with a Cop program.

The meeting ended with the recitation by the membership of the Optimist Creed:

Promise yourself:

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
