Two young patriots held their positions Monday at the entrance to Pattee Park, directing motorists to the fireworks display and sharing their joy in America's independence from tyranny and treason.

The waxing crescent moon was assisted in lighting the night sky Monday by entertaining explosions sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce.

Perry’s Independence Day parade was delayed by rain one hour Monday morning, but patriotic spirits were not dampened, and the other Fourth of July proceeded as planned.

Pattee Park was the center of activities, with many people enjoying the entertaining fun and games and the great variety of foods.

The fireworks display began about 9:45 p.m. in Pattee Park. Several citizens used the western portion of the newly paved Kwik Star parking lot at W. Third and Center streets to view the colorful explosions.
