About 20 members of the Perry Piecemakers Quilting Guild made a shopping pilgrimage to Hamilton, Mo., Saturday, birthplace of 20th-century department store magnate James Cash Penney and more recently the home of Jenny Doan’s Missouri Star Quilt Co., mecca for all quilters.

“One more yard of fabric is like having one cookie,” Perry Piecemaker Lois Hoger said. “It’s never enough. It’s like a tour of fabric buffets.”

The Perry Piecemakers sew for various charities and make many gifts for family and friends. Next weekend will also be busy for the guild as they host a Scrappy Quilt and Fish Collage display Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Citizens Bank Building at 1124 Second St. as part of the second annual Fiber Art Fair.

Several special programs are also planned for Saturday. Marti Klatt will present “Favorite Quilting Tips, Tricks and Tools or She Who Cheats — Wins!” at 11 a.m. Klatt is a member of both the Perry Piecemakers Quilt Guild and the Des Moines Area Quilt Guild. She was recently featured in an article in Quilt Folk Magazine and in the last four issues of American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine, with stories of her quilting collections.

Audience participation will be required.

At 2 p.m. the Bitsy Chicks on Parade, a group from the Des Moines Area Quilting Guild, will share dozens of small quilts that represent their interpretation of quilt challenges over the years. The presentation promises to entertain quilters and all who love to discover artistic creativity in a new form.

Perry Piecemakers wishing to participate in the event should contact Lois Hoger or Joanne Warnock.
