Perry swimmers compete at Indianola

The Perry swimmers visited Indianola Tuesday, setting several personal marks.

INDIANOLA — Five new personal best efforts and the lowering of a school record highlighted Tuesday’s action for the Perry girls swimmers, who were the guests of Indianola. The hosts emerged with a 122-40 victory.

Sophia McDevitt lowered her recently set Perry school record in the 500 freestyle by winning the race in 5 minutes, 50.4 seconds, a drop of .19 ticks. She also won the 200 individual medley by touching first in 2:26.26.

Jaylene Karolus gave Perry first-place points in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.13, with Karolus second, in 1:09.96, and Grace Phillips fifth, in 1:17.2, in the 100 back. Karolus trimmed .95 seconds off her prior best.

Shaving .12 ticks for a new PB was Zoe Hibbert, who placed third in the 100 free in 1:05.13, with teammate Jenna Nelson fifth in 1:11.27. Hibbert was fourth (29.9) and Phillips fifth (32.53) in the 50 free.

Amanda Holwegner touched in 1:26.23 for third place in the 100 breaststroke, with Nelson fourth (2:31.66) and Emily Dowd fifth (2:48.16) in the 200 free.

The quartet of Karolus, Dowd, Nelson and Holwegner were second in the 200 free relay in 2:00.96, with McDevitt, Hibbert, Phillips and Karolus third in the 400 free relay in 4:27.33. Phillips, Holwegner, McDevitt and Hibbert started the meet for Perry by finishing third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:13.2.

Although not scoring, sophomore Rhylan Agan posted two personal best efforts. She swam the 50 free in 37.14 and the 200 free in 3:18.05, drops of nearly two, and nearly four, full seconds respectively.
