Atlantic and Des Moines Roosevelt found the deck around the McCreary Community Building pool festooned in pink, as the Perry swimmers held their annual Breast Cancer Awareness meet. The Jayettes donned pink swim caps and decorated the deck with pink balloons and the ever-popular pink rubber duckies.
The meet was scored as a double-dual, in which each team is scored separately against each opponent. Roosevelt topped Perry, 83-10, with Atlantic besting the hosts, 69-20. The Trojanns and Rougriders tied against each other with identical scores of 47. Both are among the most talented teams Perry will face this season.
Perry was second against Atlantic and third to DMR in the 200 medley relay after Vivian Gonzalez, Haley Vaughn, Haileigh Kenyon and Breanna Penenger combined to finish in 2 minutes, 16.47 seconds.
Kenyon was third against both in the 200 freestyle in 2:19.21, with Breanna Penneger posting a personal-best 2:20.84.
Vivian Gonzalez was 3-3 in the 50 free in 30.44, with Anna Ridnour touching in 32.24 while Vaughn finished 2-3 in the 200 individual medley with a personal-best clocking of 2:31.2.
Kenyon was 3-3 in the 100 free in 1:02.8, with Sadee Whitfield finishing in 1:11.6, after which Penenger placed 2-3 in the 500 free with a personal-best effort of 6:22.46.
Gonzalez used a 1:20.56 in the 100 backstroke to finish 2-3, with Vaughn 2-3 in the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.46, an event that Ridnour completed in 1:34.
The Jayette 200 and 400 free relay teams each placed third against both opponents. Vaughn, Whitfield, Ridnour and Kenyon timed in at 1:59.5 in the former, with Gonzalez, Whitfield, Penenger and Breanna Ackerman finishing the later in 4:51.9.
Perry will conclude their regular season Monday with a visit from Algona and Carroll, with the meet starting at 6:30 p.m. The Jayettes will visit Johnston’s Summit Middle School for their Regional Meet at 12 p.m. Oct. 31. Other teams at the venue will be Atlantic, Carroll, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, Des Moines Hoover, Marshalltown, Mason City, West Des Moines Valley and host Johnston.
