BOONE — Host Boone topped Perry, 74-23, Tuesday, but Perry was able to avenge an earlier loss in the season by besting Algona, 46-44. Boone was a 79-22 victor over Algona in the double-dual, in which each team is scored independently against each opponent.

Algona bested host Perry, 84-57, Aug. 29, but in that meet the scoring extended through five places eight individual events and through three in the trio of relays. That allowed the Bulldogs to simply compile points against the one-entry, smaller Jayette roster.

Tuesday that advantage disappeared, as only three places were scored in each event, putting a premium on best times. While Perry won just two of 10 events against Boone (the Jayettes did not have an entry in the 200 individual medley) they were able to win 9-of-10 against Algona, overcoming the two scorers against them to slip away with the team win.

Jaylene Karolus bested both foes in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1 minutes, 7.38 seconds, a drop of 3.31 ticks from her previous best. Amanda Holwegner aided Perry’s cause by touching second in the 50 free in 29.3 after Karolus was first to the wall in 26.83.

Avery Miner was 3-1 (against Boone/against Algona) in the 100 free in 1:09.33, with Hailey Meacham second to Algona in 1:14.75. Sarah Vaughn was 3-1 in the 500 free in 6:25.26, with Vaughn 3-1 in the 200 free in 2:22.41.

Gracie Phillips cut 4.88 seconds off her previous best time in the 100 backstroke by finishing 3-1 in 1:18.46, with Holwegner 3-1, in 1:25.68, and Miner second to Algona, in 1:35.01, in the 100 breastroke. Holwegner lowered her best time in the event by 2.8 seconds and Miner by 1.64.

The foursome of Phillips, Meacham, Holwegner and Karolus was 2-1 in the 200 free relay in 2:02.15, with the 400 free relay quartet of Vaughn, Phillips, Meacham and Miner 2-1 in 4:35.06.

Perry had opened the meet placing second to both opponents in the 200 medley relay, with the grouping of Phillips, Holwegner, Meacham and Miner finishing in 2:26.26.

Thursday’s meet at Des Moines Roosevelt will also include Indianola and will begin at 5:30 p.m. Perry will then host Storm Lake, and Algona, Tuesday at the MCB Pool. All home meets begin at 6:30 p.m.
