Boone and Algona dropped by the McCreary Community Building pool Tuesday for a double-dual with Perry, in which each team is scored independently against each other.
Boone topped both Perry (97-59) and Algona (108-49) while Perry salvaged a split by edging Algona, 75-74.
Freshman Jaylene Karolus is a dual-sport athlete, as she also competes for the Perry cross country team, and when the two sports compete on the same night she chooses to run, not swim. Fortunately for the swim team, Tuesday’s Winterset Invite was postponed due to wet conditions.
Instead of being wet while running, Karolus was thus able to get wet all over, and made the most of her opportunity. She swam, and won, her first-ever 100 butterfly against both foes, touching in 1 minutes, 13.59 seconds. Karolus also topped both opponents in the 100 backstroke (1:13.21), with teammate Avery Miner second against Algona in 1:24.86.
Junior Dannah Karolus was first against both and junior Sarah Vaughn second to both in the 200 free, the Jayette duo touching in 2:19.26 and 2:21.55, respectively.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]
Senior Anna Ridnour was 2/1 (Boone/Algona) in the 200 IM (2:46.51), Dannah Karolus 2/1 and Miner third to Algona in the 100 free in 1:03.25 and 1:09.41, with Vaughn 2/1 in the 500 free in 6:23.57.
Abby Herman used a personal-best 29.24 clocking to place 2/3 in the 50 free, with Ridnour 2/2 and Amanda Holwegner 3/3 in the 100 breaststroke in times of 1:27.77 and 1:28.48.
The 200 medley relay team of Jaylene Karolus, Ridnour, Herman and Holwegner placed 3/2 in 2:20.91 with the 200 free relay foursome of Dannah Karolus, Holwegner, Ridnour adn Herman 3/2 in 2:00.59.
Perry was 2/1 in the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, with Herman, Vaughn and the Karolus sisters teaming to finish in 4:24.29.
