NEWTON, IA — The more than 30-plus members of the NCMP (Newton) swim team welcomed both Oskaloosa and Perry (each fewer than 10 members) for a double-dual Tuesday. The format used had each team scored independently against each of their opponents.

The Newton YMCA pool is measured in meter, thus creating slightly longer races and, consequentially, slower times. The times recorded are the official times without alteration to yards.

NCMP beat Perry, 157-26, and Oskaloosa 166-10, with Perry a 60-37 winner when scored against the latter.

The 200 medley relay of Emily Dowd, Maddie McDevitt, Jenna Nelson and Hailey Peterson was 3/2 (against NCMP/Osky) in 2 minutes, 52.19 seconds, with Lilly Riley, Sophia McDevitt, Quin Mahler-Moreno and Zoe Hibbert finishing the 400 free relay in 4:30.22.

With Peterson back from injury Perry had the luxury of entering two teams in the 200 free relay. Mahler-Moreno, Hibbert, Riley, and Sophia McDevitt finished 2/1 in 2:02.09, with Maddie McDevitt, Nelson, Dowd, and Peterson second to Oskaloosa in 2:25.5.

Mahler-Moreno was the overall winner of the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.93, with Sophia McDevitt a double-winner in the 100 butterfly in 1:12.98.

The 200 IM was won Mahler-Moreno in 2:31.79, with Sophia McDevitt 3/1 in the 100 backstroke in 1:17.34.

Hibbert was 2.1 ina the 50 free (30.65) and Riley second to Oskaloosa (31.78), with Hibbert 3/1 in the 100 free (1:08.7) while Nelson was 3/1 in the 200 free (2:40.86) and Dowd third to Oskaloosa (2:43.92).

Given meters, and not yards, the distance race was a 400-meter freestyle, as opposed to the more common 500 (yard) free.

Riley scored points for a 2/1 finish in 5:18.47, with Dowd second to Oskaloosa in 5:46.24.

A 50 freestyle junior varsity race was also held, with Maddie McDevitt finishing in 35.83 and Peterson in 40.35.

Perry will host Grinnell Tuesday and both Atlantic and Spencer Oct. 11.
