Perry track teams make visit to Greene County

JEFFERSON — Renovations to the facilities in Carroll forced the Tiger Coed Relays to be hosted at Greene County Tuesday, with Perry one of numerous teams in action.

The Jayettes were sixth in an eight-team field with 43 points, with the 69 points totaled by the Bluejays placing the Perry boys fifth in a seven-team competition. The Perry girls placed in six events, winning three, while the Bluejays scored points in 10 events.

Grace Stewart was a double-winner for the Perry girls after claiming the 1500 in 5 minutes, 29.72 seconds and the 3000 in 11:45.57. She was joined as a victor by fellow senior Sid Vancil, who was first in the 800 in 2:29.05.

Vancil teamed with Isabel Saemisch, Quinn Whiton and Damaris Robles to finish second in the sprint medley in 2:03.3, with Whiton, Saemisch, Vancil and Kennedy Tunink fourth in the 4×100 in 56.89. Placing sixth was the 4×800 unit of Joanna Rodgriguez, Mary Ann Riesberg, Savanna Benton and Wendy Escalante, which crossed in 14:09.68.

The Bluejays were second in both the 4×400 (3:40.26) and sprint medley (1:40.78), with Tyler Fessler, Kaleb Olejniczak, Zachary Thompson and Brandon Kenyon running the former and Donald Chavez, Byron Melendrez, Kenyon and Thompson the latter.

Chavez, Justin Stammer, Zach Stewart and Eduardo Sanchez teamed for sixth in the distance medley (4:18.4), with Sanchez fifth in both the 1600 (5:17.31) and 3200 (11:44.93).

Olejniczak (11.79) and Kenyon (12.05) were 2-4 in the 100, Fessler (24.55) and Kato Dougan (24.94) 4-5 in the 200 and Fessler (53.7) and Olejniczak (54.35) 2-3 in the 400.

Kenyon was second (58.03) and Olejniczak fifth (1:01.88) in the 400 low hurdles, with Thompson placing eighth (2:13.49) in the 800.

Perry will host the Bluejay/Jayette Relays today at Kaufman Track, with field events beginning at 4:30 p.m. Girls teams scheduled to compete include Greene County, North Polk, Roland-Story, Webster City and Winterset, with Boone, Carroll, Kuemper Catholic, Norwalk and Ottumwa competing on the boys side.
