WINTERSET — Strong efforts from several individuals helped lift the Perry boys to third place at Thursday’s Raccoon River Conference meet, with the Jayette thinclads finishing seventh.

Carlisle won the boys side with 149 points, with Boone second at 91 and Perry scoring well with 74 points for third. Winterset (65) was fourth, ADM and Bondurant-Farrar tied for fifth (both with 60), Ballard was seventh (52) and Carroll (38) eighth.

Carlisle made it a double-dip by also winning the girls title. The Wildcats had 174 points, with runner-up ADM at 140. Boone (93), Winterset (76), Carroll (51), Ballard (30), Perry (17) and B-F (8) completed the field.

“The boys went out and ran very well, which was nice to see,” Coy said. “That we scored 74 points and zero came from the field events showed the success we had on the track.”

Junior Reece Dunlap and senior Adan Medina continued to provide the Bluejays with a potent 1-2 punch in the 200 and 400. Dunlap won both in personal record times of 22.27 seconds and 50.76 clicks, with Medina fifth in the 200 in 23.42 and fourth in the 400 in 52.57, both improvements of one spot over his entry seed.

Dunlap blazed to second in the 100 dash in 11.2, beating two runners who had topped him several times throughout the season.

“Reece had a big night for us,” Coy said. “In my opinion he runs to curve of the track as well as anybody.”

“I also thought Adan and Brandon Kenyon ran very well,” he added. “Adan moving up from his seed scored big points for us. Brandon obviously helped out in the 800 (he was second in 2 minutes, 8.81 seconds) but also ran very good legs for us in the 4×800 and 4×400.”

Kaleb Olejniczak was fifth in the 800 in 2:15.11 and also drew praise from his coach.

“Kaleb was seeded sixth (in the 800) and placed fifth and also ran two solid legs for us in the 4×800 and 4×200,” Coy noted. “Then we had a lot of help from other runners. It was, overall, a good night.”

Eduardo Sanchez had the only other scoring individual event effort for the Bluejays, crossing sixth in the 3200 in 11:55.54.

Dunlap, Medina, Kenyon and Mana Martinez continue to shave their own school record in the sprint medley, resetting the mark Thursday with a winning time of 1:37.22.

Kenyon, Olejniczak, Alexis Garrido and Rashon Ivory were second in the 4×800 in 8:47.04, with Kenyon, Garrido, Ivory and Medina placing third in the 4×400 in 3:36.66.

Donald Chavez, Nic Fellom, Zachary Thompson and Garrido teamed to place fourth in the distance medley in 3:59.11, with the foursome of Martinez, Fellom, Ivory and Olejniczak sixth in the 4×200 in 1:38.27.

Points were hard to come by for the Perry girls, who cracked the top six in five of 19 events.

Breanna Penenger placed fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:16.06, with Sid Vancil fourth in the 800 in 2:30.97 while Grace Stewart crossed fifth in the 3000 in 12:31.92.

The 4×800 quartet of Penenger, Damaris Robles, Jaky Castaneda and Joselyn Carrillo were third in 11:29.94, with Penenger, Vancil, Isabel Saemisch and Haley Vaughn sixth in the 4×400 in 4:35.84.
