BONDURANT — The Perry volleyball team accepted a late invitation to play in the 16-team Skip Anderson tourney Saturday. The event, hosted by Bondurant-Farrar, used to be an annual trip for the Jayettes, but the team did not attend last year.

Perry (0-7) struggled throughout the day, dropping all six matches by 2-0 results. Sets were played to 21 points (win by two), and the closest the Jayettes could come was 19 points against Ames, 17 against Boone and 16 against Pella Christian, all in their respective first sets. Carroll, Gilbert and Norwalk also posted wins over Perry.

The Jayettes had just nine ace serves in 12 total sets and finished serving 105-of-127 (83 percent). With an average of only just over 10 serves per set the team found their offense difficult to set up, resulting in just 40 total kills.

Kacy Nevitt led Perry with 15 total kills, with Peyton Tunink adding nine kills, Ashley Cerna five and Jayna Kenney four, with Quinn Whiton and Lanie Fish provided three kills apiece while Bella Nath had one. Nevitt had 8.5 blocks, Whiton, 2.5 blocks and Tunink two, with Fish notching 1.5 blocks, Kenney one and Cerna one assisted block.

Whiton distributed 32 assists, with Kenney tallying four assists, Nevitt three and Tunink one.

Jenisis Cerna had a team-best 10 digs, with Addison Huntington making eight, Ashley Cerna seven and Tunink six. Fish and Whiton carded three digs each, with Kenney adding two and Nevitt one.

Fish was 15-of-15 serving with two aces, with Jenisis Cerna 18-21-1 and Nevitt 22-28-3. Tunink was 14-17-2 behind the line, Ashley Cerna 14-19-1 while Whiton was 19-of-21. Nath was 1-of-2, Kathryn West and Callie Steva both 1-of-1 and Kenney 0-of-1.

Perry returns to action Tuesday with a trip to Boone, and will then be off until Sept. 8 when they host Carlisle.
