SAYDEL — The Perry volleyball team had their best day of their season Monday as the Jayettes emerged with three wins in four matches at the Saydel Invite.

Perry (4-22) defeated Clarke, 2-1, on scores of 21-16, 14-21 and 15-13, with scores of 21-12 and 21-18 carrying Perry over Saydel. Perry defeated Des Moines North, 21-11 and 21-12, and nearly knocked off Des Moines East, falling 22-20 and 21-18 to finish 3-1.

Improved serving accuracy contributed to the win. The Jayettes had struggled mightily behind the line through the first half of the season but have since made great improvement, and finished a combined 153-of-166 (.922 percent) with 24 aces Monday.

Jasmine Shriver terrorized North with a 13-14-7 service outing in their match en route to finishing 45-47-10 overall. Quinn Whiton was 27-28-3 and Jayna Kenney 26-27-2, with Mackenzie Ayers 21-22-1 and Magley Orellana 13-17-2. Kacy Nevitt had seven aces on 20-of-24 serving, with Peyton Tunink 1-of-1.

Nevitt was strong at the net, finishing with 35 kills to easily lead the Perry attack. Shriver had nine kills, Whiton five and Ayers three, with Kenney and Gabby West recording two kills apiece and Orellana one.

Whiton distributed 39 assists, with Nevitt and Orellana providing three assists apiece, Ayers, Kenney and Stephanie Garcia two each and West one.

Orellana and Shriver led the defense with 41 and 24 digs, respectively, with Whiton adding 14 digs and Kenney and Garcia 10 apiece. Ayers and Nevitt had nine digs apiece, with West making seven digs and Mary Ann Reisberg two. Ayers, Nevitt and West also had one block apiece.

Perry hosts Carroll tonight for “Dig For a Cure” breast cancer awareness night. The match will be a “Pink Out” with Dallas County Relay For Life to receive all collections from fundraising.
