Perry wrestlers compete in quad meet at W-G

WOODWARD — Colfax-Mingo, Ogden and host Woodward-Granger were the three opponents for the Perry wrestling team Tuesday, with the Bluejays claiming one team victory.

Perry edged Colfax-Mingo, 37-36, but fell by a 45-25 margin to Ogden, with W-G overcoming Perry, 47-27. In other scores, W-G blasted Colfax-Mingo, 67-3, and defeated Ogden, 54-30, with Ogden a 48-30 winner over Colfax-Mingo.

Tanner Burgin (132 pounds) and Daniel Cornelio were both 3-0 for Perry. The former won with an 11-2 major decision and with decisions of 1-0 and of 4-1, with the latter tallying a pair of pins and a 7-4 decision.

Class 2A sixth-ranked Cole Nelson received a pair of forfeits at 120 but was surprised, 7-4, at 126 pounds by Ogden’s Kale Munson.

Jeb Stewart (152) was 2-1 with a pair of pins, with Keegan Snyder (160) 2-1 with a pin and a forfeit while Alan Gomez (285) was 2-1 with a pin and a 7-3 decision.

Cayden Widen (170) and Jose Chavez (182) each had one win from forfeit, with Taylor Atwell (113) and Martha Turrado (145) each dropping their lone match. Brian Hernandez was unable to win in his two matches at 220, with Rylee Ray dropping his lone bout, also at 220.

Perry did not compete at 106 and 195.

Perry returns to the mat when Thursday when they host North Polk.
