Perry wrestlers divide pair at Carlisle

CARLISLE — Perry was a 60-18 winner over Coon Rapids-Bayard Thursday, but dropped a RRC dual to Carlisle, 53-16, while the hosts rounded out the triangular with a 78-6 victory over outmatched CR-B.

Kaleb Olejniczak (138 pounds) and Cole Nelson (106) were the only two Bluejays to collect wins in each of their matches. Olejniczak had wins by pin and major decision, with Nelson recording a fall while receiving a forfeit.

Olejniczak, ranked second in 2A by The Predicament, improved to 34-1 on the season. He is now 167-20 for his career as he closes in on Zach Thompson’s school record for career wins, a mark of 174 set just last season.

Six Bluejays finished with 1-1 marks, with each having gained a victory by forfeit. Riece Graham (113), Tanner Burgin (120), Jacob Nelson (132), Erick Funez (160), Cole Snyder (182) and Emanuel Soto (285) were the sextet. Chien Doan earned a forfeit at 195 against CR-B, with Perry leaving 195 open against Carlisle.

Justin Stammer (152) and Bryan Funez (145) both also had 1-1 records Thursday, with each winning by fall.

Jered Narber (170) dropped his match against CR-B, with 170 left open against Carlisle, while Alex Fickbohm (120) and Sebastian Hernandez (220) were unable to secure a win in their two matches.

Perry will compete Saturday in the Williamsburg Invitational.
