Perry wrestlers host PCM, Roland-Story for triangular

Perry fell to host Ogden Friday in their second outing of the football season.

The Perry grapplers hit the home mats Thursday against both PCM and Roland-Story.

The hosts were 51-25 winners over PCM, but dropped a 57-21 decision to Roland-Story, who also claimed a 48-36 win over PCM.

Three Bluejays were 2-0, led by 220-pounder Kevin Colin and heavyweight Alan Gomez. Colin was victorious with pins in 4 minutes, 40 seconds and in 1:56, with Gomez winning 1:15 and with an 11-6 decision.

Also 2-0 was Cole Nelson (138 pounds), who needed only 22 seconds to win by pin while also being given a forfeit.

The Perry girls got into the act as well, with Mercedes Ponce winning by fall, in 4 minutes, at 106 while Taylor Atwell was 1-1 at 113 with a pin in 1:11. Hailey Peterson also competed at 106, but was unable to collect a win.

Finishing 1-1 were Jonathan Chavez (132), Tanner Burgin (145), Juan Hernandez (152) and Christian Garrido (160). Chavez had a pin in 1:02, Burgin a pin in 1:14 and Hernandez a 7-1 decision, with Garrido winning by fall in only 20 seconds.

Keegan Snyder wrestled once at 182 but made the most of his opportunity, pinning his PCM opponent in 3:37.

Unable to record victories in two matches were Gavin Kercheval (120), Cristobal Turrado (126), Kain Killmer (170) and Pablo Calderon (195), with Omar Jaimes kept winless in one bout at 182.

Perry send 10 boys to compete at Waukee Northwest Saturday, while nine Perry girls will travel north for action in Fort Dodge.
