Perry wrestlers perform well at tough Harlan Invite

HARLAN — The Perry grapplers had four of their nine members competing finish in the top three of their respective weight classes against a strong field at the 10-team Dan Hill Invitational Saturday.

Logan-Magnolia claimed the team title with 240 points, with Harlan second at 209 while Perry finished eighth with 113 points.

Senior and second-ranked 138-pounder Kaleb Olejniczak saw his first contested matches of the season, finishing as champion with a pair of pins and a 7-2 decision.

Jeb Stewart also reached the finals, finishing 3-1 and placing second at 132 pounds. Stewart posted two wins by decision and one by pinfall.

Senior Justin Stammer was third at 152 with a 4-1 mark, each of his wins coming by pin. Also third for Perry was Cole Nelson, who had two pins and a decision in finishing 3-1 at 106.

Riece Graham recorded a pin in posting a 1-2 mark and placing fifth at 113, with Cole Snyder 2-1 and fifth at 182 with a pin and a decision. Erick Funez also placed for Perry, scoring points for sixth place at 160 after a 1-3 invite, his win coming on a decision.

Wilber Ramirez (145) and Cori Alamina (195) were also in action for the Jays but dropped each of their first two matches and were eliminated.

Perry will return to the mats Tuesday when they join Ogden and Woodward-Granger for a quadrangular hosted by Montezuma. They will then make a long trip Saturday to the Aplington-Parkersburg Invite, their first appearance at the event.
