Perry wrestlers win once at triangular

CARROLL — The new wrestling season opened for Perry Thursday at Kuemper Catholic, with the Bluejays dropping a pair of close matches and winning comfortably once.

Perry fell, 39-36, to Kuemper in their first duel, they suffered a 42-40 loss to Gilbert before closing out the action with a 45-30 win over Roland-Story.

The opening loss to the Knight began with action at 220 pounds, with the heavyweight bout beginning the contest with the Tigers. In both battles the Bluejays held late leads, only to have two (and then three) consecutive losses combine with an open weight at 195 pounds to undo victory.

Jacob Nelson finished 3-0 with three pins for Perry at 145 pounds, with Riece Graham 3-0 at 106 with a pin, technical fall and forfeit while Cole Nelson went 3-0 at 113 with a pin and two wins via forfeit. Also 3-0 was 160-pounder Wilber Ramirez, who won by decision, major decision and pin.

Heavyweight Camden Jones was 2-1 with a decision and a pin, Amos Barrios-Munoz 2-1 with a pin and a forfeit, Erick Funez 2-1 with a major decision and forfeit and Kolby Wolfe 2-1 at 120 with two forfeits.

Tanner Bugin had a pin in finishing 1-2 at 126 pounds, with Charley Guardado also notching a win via fall while posting a 1-2 mark at 160. Alex Fichbohm (132) and Zach Darr (220) were unable to record a win in the three matches each competed in, with Leonard Jacobson 0-2 at 182 pounds.
