The Perry Public Library's fourth annual Take Your Child to the Library Day will bring food for the mind Saturday to local families with children and also resources for the body from groups such as the Dallas County Hospital and the McCreary Community Building.

The Perry Public Library’s fourth annual Take Your Child to the Library Day is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The annual fest promises to delight Perry-area families with children again this year with balloon animals, face painting and a visit from a guest animal.

The event promotes good reading habits for the whole family, so parents are encouraged to get their children library cards during the fest. Each child attending the library day will take home a free book.

child to library dayWith its rather forbidding acronym, TYCTTLD, the annual Take Your Child to the Library Day aims to raise community awareness about the importance of the library in the lives of children. TYCTTLD was created in 2012 by Connecticut librarians Nadine Lipman and Caitlin Augusta and has become a nationwide event in February.

Because the goal is a healthy mind in a healthy body, various Perry-area services, such as the Perry Child Development Center, McCreary Community Building, Swanson Dental Care, the Dallas County Hospital and others, will table at the event and share resources with attendees.

The Perry Public Library’s participation in the annual event dates to 2015. Children’s Librarian Suzanne Kestel said attendance at last year’s event was strong, and the fourth annual gathering is expected to be even larger.
