Perry’s Vancil earns Academic All-State recognition

Perry senior Sid Vancil takes her best cut against Carroll.

Perry softball second baseman Sid Vancil has joined elite company by being named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State team. Honorees must be a senior, have a GPA of no less than 3.75 and boast an ACT score of 27 or higher. She will continue her education at the University of Iowa, where she will major in Pharmacy. In addition to her academic success, Vancil was a crucial cog for the Jayettes for many seasons. She was a part of 94 wins dating back to her eighth-grade season and was a key part of the 2016 Perry team that finished sixth at the Class 4A state tournament.

Vancil ended her career with 99 runs scored and 76 driven in while being successful on 41-of-46 stolen base attempts. She had 140 career hits, including 28 doubles, one triple and two home runs.

A multi-sport standout for the Jayettes, Vancil has been invited to walk-on for the University of Iowa cross country team this fall. She had already been asked to walk-on for the winter indoor and spring outdoor track seasons for the Hawkeyes.
