HUXLEY — “It was the first meet of the year and we played like it,” Perry girls golf coach Joel Happel said. “Not a terrible night, but all the girls have better rounds in them.”

Happel’s comments followed Perry’s season opener at Ballard Tuesday. Norwalk and Ballard each finished with a team score of 220, with Perry shooting 233.

Medalist honors went to Norwalk’s Emily Ellis, who had a 49. Perry’s Alyssa Kruger was runner-up medalist with a 52, winning a three-way cardback with Ballard’s Abby Vincent and Madisom Smith.

Brooke Huntington was second for Perry with a 54, with Skylar Cunningham carding a 62 and Sarah Sweet a 65. Also playing for the Jayettes were Delaney Eiteman (65) and Madyson Hill (73).

Madison Knutson and Lauren Smith each had rounds of 58 to score for the hosts, with Camri Vivone, Rachel Elliot and Liz Putbrese all shooting 57’s to account for the other three Norwalk scorers.

Perry will host Greene County and Des Moines Christian Thursday, then entertain DC-G, Dowling Catholic, Humboldt, North Polk and Norwalk Saturday in the annual Jayette Invitational.
