Four Perry High School seniors were honored by the Perry Optimist Club Wednesday night for their award-winning essays, submitted in the club’s annual essay contest.
Award medals for the young writers were presented to PHS English students Alberto Flores, Braydon Andorf, Joseph Avino and Yamilet Ortega. The students are instructed by PHS English teacher Christine Krohn.
The students and their families attended the monthly Optimist Club meeting at the Hotel Pattee and shared refreshments with the club members prior to the ceremonies.
The theme of this year’s essay was “Who is an Everyday Hero that Brings Out the Optimism in You?”
The submissions were reviewed by Perry Optimist Club members Linda Andorf, Rich Wede, Dr. Randy McCaulley and Dr. James Caufield.
