PLEASANTVILLE — Friday’s gray skies and damp conditions might have served as an omen for the post-game mood of the Woodward-Granger football team after host Pleasantville shocked the Hawks with a 27-7 in Class 1A District 7 victory.

The Trojans (2-5, 1-2) ran for 253 yards and passed for 67 more while dominating time of possession and keeping the ball away from the Hawk offense. The hosts ran more than 20 more offensive plays than their guests, limiting the opportunity for W-G to make headway on the scoreboard.

W-G (4-3, 1-2) scored on an 85-yard run by Gabe Yingst, with Matt Hanson adding the PAT boot. The long scoring dash accounted for not quite half of the 202 total ground yards the Hawks compiled on 30 carries, with Keith Braunschweig 7-of-11 for 105 yards in through the air.

Caylor Clark was 4-10-1 for 67 yards passing for the hosts, with Cale Anthony carrying the ball 16 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns while Cael Lester rushed 26 times for 118 yards and one TD. The remaining Trojan points came when Anthony fell on a Hawk fumble in the end zone, with Braedon Pollard kicking three PATs.

The Hawks fumbled the ball away three times, with Tate Lettow’s interception the one turnover forced by W-G.

Yingst led the W-G defense with nine tackles, with Cale Pritchett and Bryce Achenabch making 5.5 stops apiece.

Achenbach caught five passes for 51 yards, with Pacey Moats (1-35) and Reese Jamison (1-19) also pulling in Braunschweig aerials.

Yingst ran five times for 108 yards and a score. Lettow had 42 yards on 12 rushes, Braunschweigh 25 yards on five carries and Cade Polich 21 yards on four runs while Achenbach had four totes for six yards.

W-G will play their final home game of the season Friday when they host Pella Christian (5-2, 3-0). The Eagles blanked Colfax-Mingo, 42-0, in week seven.

The two opponents have played three common foes, with Van Meter topping PC, 27-7, in week two, with the Eagles defeating Woodward Academy, 51-18, in week five and Pleasantville, 35-0, in week six. W-G topped Woodward Academy, 70-14, while suffering a 41-0 loss to Van Meter.
