The Pokemon Go! phenomenon took Perry — and the world — by storm in the summer of 2016, and its popularity has yet to fade.

Pokemon Go! is a free gaming app for Android and iOS smart phones. Using a virtual map of Perry (or wherever you are) that is peopled with hidden Pokemons, players try to capture as many of the characters as they can. They must be at or very near the locations the map on the phone reveals the Pokemons in order to capture them.

About a dozen young adults were seen at midday Sunday near the vacant shops at Second and Lucinda streets in downtown Perry, staring at their smart phones and trying to capture the Pokemon characters.

The latest free app for Android and iOS smart phones has increased the night time foot and bicycle traffic in downtown Perry at least 10-fold.

Playing the game means getting some exercise in the great outdoors, which is a good thing. Many players are seen on bicycles, skateboards or on foot. It will be interesting to see whether the players are equally active Tuesday, Nov. 6 when they have the opportunity to walk or roll to the polls to play another sort of popular game also peopled with many characters.
