Prudence Whitfield, 80, of Perry passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the King’s Garden Campus of the Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry, Iowa.
A private burial will be held at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa, at a later date.
Prudence Millicent Whitfield was born Aug. 5, 1942, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, to Anthony and Sophia (Merkel) Matzie.
She graduated from Ambridge High School with the class of 1960.
Prudence was united in marriage to John Melvin Whitfield in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, on June 28, 1961.
She worked as a cashier at Pamida and was a housekeeper Woodward Resource Center for 24 years.
Prudence enjoyed reading, sewing, crosswords puzzles and playing Bingo.
In death she rejoins her husband, John Melvin Whitfield; parents, Anthony and Sophia Matzie; brother, Tom Matzie; and a daughter, Kasey Whitfield.
Left to cherish Prudence’s memory are her daughters, Tammy Whitfield of Perry and Raina (Joe) Whitfield of Perry; a niece, Milini (Kinsey) Matzie of Des Moines; grandchildren, Ashlee (Eric) Morman of Perry, Sadee (Gary) Dixon of Cincinnati and Aubree Tasler of Perry; great-grandchildren, Huntter and Bristtol Morman of Perry; and several cousins.
