PSST speeds past Jefferson

The season began Tuesday with a 328-275 win over Jefferson at the MCB Pool despite the visitors having a 67-42 edge in total participants.

Four team and one pool record fell, with Jaylene Karolus resetting the Perry 13-14 girls 100 freestyle mark. Karolus touched in 1 minute, 7.59 seconds, shattering the old standard of 1:12.15 set in 2012 by Serenity Ewing. while Joel Storey touched in 1:13.43 in the boys 11-12 100 free, erasing the 1:17.96 set last summer by Garrett Winey.

Quin Mahler-Moreno turned in a 1:17.27 in the 11-12 girls 100 IM to break Sophia McDevitt’s 2018 mark of 1:17.62, with Mahler-Moreno setting a new team and pool standard in the 50 breaststroke with  a 38.17 second clocking, besting her own record of 40.95 from 2018.

Karolus and Sophia McDevitt each had five wins for the 13-14 girls, with Emily Dowd and Addison Huntington each winning twice. Huntington was second three times, with Dowd and Jenna Nelson second once each.

Kilee Hughes and Lauren Riley were each the runner-up once for the 8U girls, tihe ALeah Karolus twice first and once second (2-1), Clara Noble (1-2) and Ellie Hughes (0-1) for the 9-10 girls.

The 11-12 girls were led by Quin Mahler-Moreno (5-0) and Zoe Hibbert (4-1), with Lilly Riley (2-2) and Maddie McDevitt (2-0) also swimming well. Dannah Karolus (5-0), Sarah Vaughn (3-2), Anna Ridnour (2-1) and Abby Herman (2-1) helped pile up team points for the 15-18 girls.

Dysen Deardorff had three firsts and one second-place finish (3-1) for the 8U boys, with Eli McCarty second once while Isaac Winey (2-0), Townes Wilson (0-2) and Bryan Anderson (0-1) were in action for the PSST 9-10 boys.

Joel Storey (4-0), Kane Mahler-Moreno (2-2), Sam Noble (2-1) and Diego Diaz-Cardenas (2-0) made waves for the 11-12 boys, with Garrett Winey (2-1) scoring for the 13-14 boys.

Perry scored well in the 15-18 boys races, with Drew Storey (5-0) and Andrew Dowd (4-0) setting the pace. Ethan Winey (2-0), Jacob Storey (1-2), Riese Archer (1-1), Samuel Ridnour (1-0) and Isaac Noble (0-1) also helped pile up the points.

PSST is coached by Haileigh Kenyon, with Anna Ridnour assisting. Perry visits Guthrie Center Thursday and Coon Rapids Tuesday before hosting Carroll June 13.
