Public’s help sought in disappearance of Grundy Center man

The body of Michael Bruce Johns, 28, of Grundy Center was discovered in rural Floyd County Friday. His death has been ruled a homicide.

DES MOINES — Michael Bruce Johns, 28, of Grundy Center was reported missing Oct. 26, according to the Grundy Center Police Department. Johns is described as 5’7” tall and weighing 180 lbs.

Subsequent investigation led law enforcement to believe that at the time of his disappearance Johns was wearing a white baseball cap, a green or dark colored Under Armor hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white and gray tennis shoes.

The investigation also developed information indicating Johns was last seen in an area between Greene, Iowa, and Charles City, Iowa, at around 6 a.m. Oct. 25 and has not been seen or heard from since.

Investigators suspect foul play in Johns’ disappearance.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are asking for the public’s assistance in providing any information about having contact with or sightings of Johns in the area mapped during the early morning of Oct. 25.

The public is also encouraged to be vigilant in looking for anything that would indicate a current location for Johns based on the clothing he is believed to be wearing.
