Nancy Dahlke of H and W Recycling in Baxter said the rain did not keep people away from the free dropoffs.

Dahlke, who runs the business with her brothers, Tom Hulbert and Brian Hulbert, said they host similar pick-up events all around Iowa. The material is brought to the Baxter center and disassembled, she said.

The city’s recycling center will also be the site of the annual used tire collection, scheduled for Saturday, June 16 from 8 a.m. until noon. There will be no charge to dispose of up to five car tires, but a cost of $1 per tire will be charged to dispose of each car tire beyond the five-tire limit.

Disposing of large truck and tractor tires will cost $5 per tire. All tires must be removed from the rims. This free, annual service is for residential use only. Tires from businesses will not be accepted, according to city authorities.
