EARLHAM — School, stadium and meet records were reset Tuesday when Panorama’s track teams competed in the Cardinal Coed Relays.

The Panorama girls were their usual dominant selves, compiling 163 points to top a strong Madrid squad (124) for team honors. Madrid edged Van Meter, 115-110, for the top boys honors, with Panorama tying West Central Valley for sixth with 51 points. Both sides had 14 total teams competing.

“I felt the athletes took full advantage of the nicest weather we have had this season,” Panorama head coach Greg Thompson said. “They really improved on the little things from the first two outdoor meets with better exchanges and block starts. This was a great performance coming off prom this weekend.”

Senior Morgan Johnk reset her own school record with a blistering 15.66 second effort in winning the 100 hurdles. The clocking was also a stadium and meet record. Johnk also set stadium and meet records by winning the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 3-1/4 inches.

AC/GC superstar Kate Crawford won the 3000 in 10 minutes, 43.24 seconds for a stadium and meet record, but Panorama freshman Ella Waddle made her earn it by finishing second in 11:09.44, a new school standard that broke the 2008 mark of 11:17 set by Delaney Turner.

Waddle won the 1500 in 5:22.02, with fellow freshman Olivia Steffen fifth in 5:48.35.

Devyn Kemble and Lydia Lindstrom were 1-4 in the 800 in 2:28.95 and 2:41.54, respectively, with Bailey Beckman and Waddle 3-6 in the 400 in 1:06.6 and 1:09.16.

Kassidy Bremer was fourth in the 200 (28.83), Carson Fisher sixth in the 100 (13.89) and Lydia Knapp fourth in the 400 low hurdles (1:18.01) as the Panthers piled up points.

Bremer and Knapp sparkled in field events as well, with the former first, at 15’8, in the long jump while the later was first in the discus (113’4) and fifth in the shot put (31’0-1/2).

With Johnk anchoring, the shuttle hurdle team that included Maggie Woodvine, Shey Storesund and Payton Douglass won in 1:09.75, the fastest time in 2A this season. Johnk’s earlier 15.66 in the 100 hurdles also leads 2A.

The 4×100 unit of Beckman, Johnk, Kemble and Bremer won in 53.21 with Douglass, Kemble, Brianna Hoffman and Gwen Steffen teaming to win the 4×400 in a meet-record 4:21.14.

Hoffman, Lindstrom, Brooklyn Behrends and Olivia Steffen placed second in the 4×800 (10:51.23) and Woodvine, Storesund, Fisher and Hope Arganbright third in the 4×200 (1:54.96) while Fisher, Beckman, Kemble and Gwen Steffen placed third in the sprint medley (1:58.89) as the distance medley quartet of Bremer, Storesund, Douglass and Gwen Steffen crossed third in 4:36.32.

Dan Jensen won the discus for the Panther boys with a spin of 136’8 while also scoring points for third place in the shot put with a best heave of 46’9-1/2. Gracen Welberg added a second victory for the Panorama boys in the field events by clearing six feet in the high jump.

Alias Stahl, Zac Rizzuti, Spencer Hunt and Welberg finished second, in 3:59.99, in the distance medley, with Danny Nordquist, Levi Richey, Luke South and Josh Carstens placing fifth in the 4×800 in 9:05.19 while Welberg, Hunt, Rizzuti and Tanner Godfrey finished the 4×100 in sixth place with a clocking of 48.74.

South had the sole individual track placings for the Panthers, crossing fourth in the 110 hurdles in 17.29 and sixth in the 400 low hurdles in 1:08.09.

The Panorama girls compete today at AC/GC, with both Panther squads to participate at the Van Meter Invitational Monday.
