Rosalina Medina of Perry is again serving her mouth-watering tortas, tacos and burritos at Taqueria el Vecino Thursdays and Fridays from 4-9 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The taco truck is located at 508 Second St. in Perry.

When Octavio Medina of Perry, operator since 2013 of the popular taco truck, Taqueria el Vecino, at 508 Second St. in Perry, fell ill in 2014, his business closed, but now Rosalina Medina, Octavio’s wife, is again serving her mouth-watering tortas, tacos and burritos.

Business hours are limited because Rosalina also works several days each week at the Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Perry. Her current hours for Taqueria el Vecino are Thursdays and Fridays from 4-9 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11-5 p.m.

Rosalina said she is trying to make some extra money in order to pay bills that have accumulated since her husband got sick. Their son, Octavio Medina Jr., 15, assists his mother at Taqueria el Vecino.

The elder Octavio, 52, received cancer treatments in Chicago but returned to Perry in August in order to spend the remaining months of his life with his family in the home they shared here for the last 12 years.
