CEDAR RAPIDS — Perry was one of 14 teams participating in the seven-game Wells Fargo Classic at the U.S. Cellular Center Saturday.

The Bluejays donned alternate uniforms the team had used fundraisers to specifically purchase for the occasion, but the new threads obviously did little to impress Cedar Rapids Xavier, as the Saints scored a 80-48 victory.

Xavier had a 17-13 lead after one quarter and held a 39-28 edge at the half before blowing open the contest in the second half. A 16-8 third quarter moved the score to 55-36, with a 25-12 fourth quarter creating the final score as the Saints finished the second half outscoring the Jays by a combined 41-20 margin.

Jackson Joens led Xavier with 23 points, with Matthew Mims providing 20 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists. Jake Beckman aided the winning cause with 11 points.

Connor Nielsen had 17 points and Rashon Ivory 16 to lead Perry. Tanner Duffy had seven points, Drew Levan four and Aaron Lockwood two, with Mark Campos and Michael Meyer each sinking a free throw.

Perry returns to action Friday with a visit to Carlisle. The Jays travel to Carroll Tuesday, then return home to host ADM Jan. 26.
