WOODWARD — Friday’s lopsided win by their beloved Hawks helped the W-G student body and local loyalists finish Homecoming week on a positive note. Saturday’s dance (from 7-10 p.m. tonight) will officially bring the festivities to an end.

W-G was a 70-14 winner over the Woodward Academy in their Class 1A District 7 meeting. Homecoming king Gabe Yingst did his part, scoring four touchdowns and gaining a game-high 142 yards on 14 rushes while making five tackles on defense.

While Yingst was busy on with the team at halftime the rest of the court was introduced to the crowd, including queen Briley Bermel. Queen candidates Sophie David, Josie Noland, Alissa Smeltzer and Ashlyn Soelberg were also honored, as were king candidates Noah Gleason, Noah Hoyt, Hunter Pifer and Sam Peterson.

The Hawk marching band performed a special set of numbers in line with the theme “The Greatest Show On Turf” and the W-G Dance Team also entertained the crowd with a routine.

W-G (4-2, 1-1) travels to Pleasantville for their next game. They will host Pella Christian October 14, then wrap the regular season with a visit to Colfax-Mingo October 21.
