DES MOINES — Des Moines East claimed a 1-0 win over Perry in boys non-conference soccer at Cownie Park Thursday. The loss drops Perry to 1-1 overall, but Perry head coach Gary Overla took the result in stride.

“They are a decent team and extremely physical,” Overla said of the hosts. “Our kids played really well, we just didn’t get the ball in the goal. Defensively I thought we did well.”

Poor weather has mangled the early season schedule for most teams in Iowa, and the playing time necessary to form cohesion has not been forthcoming.

“It may take a while for our offense to start clicking, but once it does we will be fine,” Overla said. “Hopefully this game gets us ready for Grinnell (Perry visits the Tigers today) and we can get in a good groove here within the next couple of weeks with all the games we are playing.”

Perry hosts Bondurant-Farrar Tuesday and Boone Thursday, then plays a hectic slate the following week, with home dates against Indianola (April 23) and Winterset (April 24) before playing at Greene County (April 27) and then hosting their twice-postponed tournament April 28.
