Second-ranked Carlisle blanks host Perry

Class 4A No. 2 Carlisle improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in Raccoon River Conference softball with a 10-0 win over host Perry in six innings Monday.

The Wildcats had a 1-0 lead after two innings before breaking the game open with a six-run third inning. Two tallies in the fourth and one in the sixth ended the game early.

Already leading 1-0, four singles and four walks led to the big third inning for the guests, with a two-run Hannah Schurz home run that clanged off — and over — the top of the fence pushed the score to 9-0. A single, stolen base and throwing error allowed the 10th run to score in the sixth, with Perry unable to plate a run and play at least one more inning.

Peyton Tunink started the threw three innings for Perry (1-6, 0-3). She was touched for seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and four walks. Jayna Kenney tossed three frames of relief, yielding three runs (one earned) on three hits.

Kenney, Cassidy Heck and Kennedy Tunink each had singles for the Jayettes, with Kenney and Lydia Olejniczak each walking once. Olejniczak had a stolen base for the hosts.

Molly Hoekstra started and threw three stanzas for the Wildcats. She walked two and struck out seven. Lexxi Link hurled three innings of relief, allowing three hits while fanning five.

Perry visits Greene County tonight and Bondurant-Farrar Wednesday before hosting Ballard Thursday.
