The Perry Pubic Library Kids Fest dodged the downtown Perry rain Saturday and drew more than 900 people to the seventh annual celebration.

The morning’s rain cleared off by the 10 a.m. start, and Railroad Street between the Carnegie Library Museum and the Perry Public Library was soon filled with kids and adults enjoying spaceship aliens games, balloon and bubble fun, kinetic sand, mini golf, a big dipper constellation — in short, three hours of high-quality family time.

A $1 lunch was on offer, cooked up by the Perry Firefighters Association, and a Touch-A-Truck interactive outdoor exhibit was provided by the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, the Perry Police Department and the Perry Public Works Department.

The Kids Fest was started in 2013 by longtime Carnegie Library Museum volunteer John Glass, who died July 8, 2015. The event kicks off the library’s summer reading programs, with this summer’s theme, A Universe of Stories.
