If hopping in and out of your vehicle and browsing through the belongings of others is your thing, it is hard to imagine a greater bonanza than the annual Highway 141 Garage Sale, which kicked off to pleasant temperatures Friday. Sales continue Saturday.
Stretching 100 miles, from Sloan to Grimes, the event features sales in most communities along the route and some right off the highway itself.
In Perry it was not difficult to spot homemade signs directing shoppers to destinations, as was the steady flow of traffic down some streets that rarely receive such travel. Signs were of benefit, but it would have been nearly impossible to avoid the sales, as most streets had at least one stop for bargain hunters every few blocks.
Saturday’s forecast calls for increasing cloudiness as the afternoon moves along, with a 20 percent chance for a stray late-afternoon shower. Temperatures are expected to top out in the upper 70s.
