Bondurant-Farrar put the ball in play throughout Wednesday’s Raccoon River Conference tilt at the PAC, but the Perry defense was up to the challenge, making numerous key plays to help seal a 2-1 victory.
The Lady Jays were on the board first by manufacturing a run in their first at-bat. A single and stolen base was followed by a sacrifice fly and another base hit as the guests went up, 1-0.
The Jayettes (14-16, 4-8) responded in the bottom of the frame when Rachel Kinney hit a two-out single and scored when Alyssa Kruger followed with a RBI-triple into the right field corner.
Defensive miscues allowed Sidney Vancil and Brooke Huntington to reach in the bottom of the fourth. With Vancil on third, Huntington broke on the first pitch to steal second. B-F opted to throw through to second base to retire Huntington, but by the time the return throw to the plate was made Vancil had slid across the dish with what turned out to be the winning run.
Emma Olejniczak allowed four hits and a walk while striking out three in the win and made several strong defensive plays in the ring.
B-F had runners on the corners with one out in the sixth when Olejniczak knocked down a hard smash at her feet and recovered in time to hold the runner at third and record the out at first to help quell the threat.
Vancil made several solid plays at second base and her leaping grab of a line drive helped stop a possible rally in the fourth.
Victoria Hegstrom added a double to Kruger’s triple, with Kinney hitting two singles while Vancil and Johanna Diw each provided a base hit.
