WOODWARD — The first eight minutes of action Tuesday’s WCAC boys cage tilt between Woodward-Granger and Ogden proved the most critical of any of the four quarters, as a 22-8 edge for the hosts proved enough to carry the Hawks to a 78-71 victory.

W-G (5-2, 3-2) entered the intermission holding a 42-29 lead, but an 18-12 run from Ogden (2-4, 1-4) in the third quarter trimmed the Hawk advantage to 54-47 with one stanza remaining.

The Hawks doubled their third-quarter output in the final eight minutes to keep the Bulldogs and bay en route to claiming the win.

Keith Braunschweig led all scorers with 19 points for W-G, with Noah Hoyt adding 14 points, Reese Jamison 13 and Bryce Achenbach 12. Pacey Moats and Kaya Bowlsby scored seven points apiece for the hosts, with J.P. Nixon adding six points.

Braunschweig grabbed seven rebounds, with Nixon and Jamison pulling down six boards apiece. Achenbach passed out 12 assists, with Jamison and Hoyt came away with four steals each.

Griffin Diggs led Ogden with 12 points while Ben Heeren scored 11 points and Jade Thompson and Kayden Kruse 10 points apiece. Noah Snedden and Sawyer Wagner scored eight points apiece, with Jacob Craven and Jacob Hinman each recording six-point efforts.

Heeren had 15 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots, with Kruse snatching five caroms while Diggs blocked three shots.

W-G visits Madrid Friday before hosting Panorama Tuesday in their final pre-holiday action.
