Strong second half carries Rams past Panthers

WOODWARD — Greene County slowly widened a two-point halftime lead to score a 67-53 win over Panorama Monday in their boys Class 2A District 15 first round contest.

The Rams (12-10) will play host Des Moines Christian Thursday at 8 p.m., with Woodward-Granger, a 54-40 winner over AC/GC in Monday’s 8 p.m. game, to play the Woodward Academy Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at DMC. Thursday’s winners advance to the Feb. 20 District Final at DC-G.

Panorama (6-22) was tied, 18-all, with Greene County after one frame Monday, with the Rams holding a 29-27 edge at the half. The margin grew to 40-34 entering the four quarter, with a 27-19 bulge generated the final score.

The Rams shot 12-of-18 at the foul line, of which 11-of-17 came in the second half. The Panthers were 9-of-11 from the stripe in the loss.

Wade Adcock led all scorers with 21 points for Greene County, with Joe Towers scoring 14 points, Trey Hinote 13 and Lance Hughes 12. Jordan Patterson had four points, Ben Brayard two and Austin Easterlife one for the Rams.

Gracen Welberg’s 18 points and 12 from Zac Rizzuti paced Panorama. Luke South had eight points and Malachi Peasely five, with Blaine Barber and Jacob Merschman providing four points apiece while Connor Powell had two points.

Seniors Merschman, Blaine Barber and Tanner Godfrey all played their final games for Panorama.
