ADEL — A big crowd chased away the mid-week blahs Wednesday by spending the afternoon at the Adel Aquatic Family Center, which is in its third summer of operation.
The attraction opened in June and will close for the season Aug. 16, as nearly the entire lifeguard staff will be departing for the start of college classes.
Until then the center is open daily from 12:30-8:30 p.m. Admission from 12:30-6 p.m. is $1 for tots age two and under, with ages 3-54 charged $5 and those 55 and over assessed a $4 fee. After 6 p.m. 2U kids are free, with ages 3-54 $4 and 55-over $3. Daily family passes (good for up to five people) are available for $15.
The facility boasts sunbathing areas, a large splash pad and kiddie pool area, a rope bridge and floating pads, diving boards of two differing heights and a three-story water slide with both open and a totally-enclosed chutes.
Members of the lifeguard staff said Wednesday crowd was “about average” and that on some days the center “has to do a count” as maximum capacity is quickly reached. With buses bringing in day care groups and other clubs from the entire Des Moines metro area, the staff recommends visitors arrive early to insure admittance.
