Sunny and cold Sunday weather after stormy week

Icicles twinkle in the Sunday sunlight along the eaves of Wiese Industries in Perry.

Turning south from the eastbound lane of Willis Avenue at an excessive speed on slick streets is not advised even on the clearest day.

Sunday’s sunny skies brought a sharp contrast to the last week’s storms in the Perry area, and many motorists were seen along Willis Avenue enjoying the fair day.

One unwary driver clipped the 16th Street stop sign on Willis’ south side, presumably after turning southward from the eastbound lane of Willis Avenue at an excessive speed and sliding off the roadway on the slick street.

The bright, cold weather brings to mind the words of the American poet Robert Frost, who noted a similar sharp contrast in his poem “Fire and Ice.”

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
